Dropout is for people of all ages, genders and sexualities who believe that it’s essential to our happiness, our health, our wellness, and our society, that we make time to dropout from our devices and be active every day.
Inspired by Tim Leary’s 1967 speech in San Fran’s Golden Gate Park where he coined the phrase, “Turn on, Tune in and Drop out”, which became the mantra for the counter-culture social movement of that era.
Today, we’re advocating for a counter-screen-culture, with the subverted mantra: Turn Off, Tune In and Drop Out.
Turn off your device, tune in to the moment and drop out to be active. Whether it’s for an hour to play sport; a day to reboot the system; or a year to truly find yourself.
Our story
Founded by award-winning designer, Dan Einzig, who grew up in Wimbledon, where he and his friends would sneak in to centre-court and watch tennis legends like Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Becker, Edberg, Lendl, Navratilova, Graff, Agassi, and Sampras.
Graduating from Central St Martins School of Art, he developed a reputation in the music business designing cover-art, limited-edition art books and tour t-shirts for his childhood rock ’n’ roll heroes, including Eric Clapton, Elton John, Dire Straits, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
Relocating with his young family to Venice Beach, California in 2014 to open the LA office of Mystery, his blossoming multi-disciplinary design agency, he fell in love with the outdoor active lifestyle, sold the London business, designed the iconic Venice V Hotel, and launched 3 award-winning cannabis brands, before they literally, went up in smoke!
Today he has recalibrated his work life balance. When he’s not painting custom racquets and designing the next collection of Dropout apparel, he regularly plays tennis, paddle tennis, golf and pickleball with his friends and family in the LA sun. Daily, he rides his beach-cruiser to the edge of the sand and runs barefoot to the pier, or swims in the ocean by the breakwater.
It’s a blessed life and he is extremely grateful for it. But, it was the trauma of high-stress and anxiety that he suffered at his agency and during the unsuccessful entrepreneurial adventures that opened his eyes to the healing power of an active lifestyle, and ever since, he has made it a point to dropout every day.
With the exponential growth of social media and all the reports that point to screen time as having a direct link to the increase in the rates of anxiety and depression in the western world, Dan decided it’s time to join the social movement, help spread the message and inspire society to make more time to dropout and be more active, believing like many people do, that it will lead to better physical, mental and emotional wellness for everyone.
